Hardness measurements are frequently undertaken in the course of operating equipment and steel structure diagnostics as fast and easy tests, showing correlation of strength properties and hardness of material. We have portable hardness testers which can be used for taking measurements directly on the target equipment, without the need to cut out the material:
Leeb HARDCHECK DHT-300 hardness tester
Leeb hardness values are automatically converted into other hardness scales (such as HV, HB, HRC, HRC, etc.) by the hardness tester (according to ASTM E 140-12b).
During hardness testing, a ball tip penetrator driven by spring tension is ejected towards the inspected surface and rebounds. The penetrator fall and rebound speed is measured at approx. 1 mm away from the tested surface. Direct current is induced through the penetrator movement and the value of induced voltage is proportional to the penetrator speed. The quotient of voltage during the fall and rebound multiplied by a coefficient of 1000 is the value of Leeb hardness.
AlphaDUR mini hardness tester
AlphaDUR mini is a portable hardness tester for various materials. Vickers hardness is measured on the basis of the UCI (Ultrasonic Contact Impedance) method. HV hardness can be converted automatically to other scales (HB, HRC, HRB).
The UCI method consists of comparing the oscillation frequency of a probe indenter between its state in the air and at the point of impacting the material at the preset load. This frequency offset is proportional to the contact surface. The ultrasonic hardness tester recorder calculates the collected data and transforms it to hardness expressed in HV.
