Static tensile test is a fundamental test used to determine the properties of materials according to tensile criteria under static load. Because the test involves observation of the material’s behavior over the full range of strain (elastic strain, plastic strain, up to rupture), it can be used to not only determine the strength of a material but also its elasticity.

The basic parameters defining the mechanical properties of materials include tensile strength Rm, physical yield point Re and offset yield strength R0.2. Yield properties of materials determined through a static tensile test are defined on the basis of elongation A and reduction of area Z.

Tensile tests are performed in conformity with the following standards:

PN-EN ISO 4136:2022-12 - Destructive tests on welds in metallic materials - Transverse tensile test

PN-EN ISO 6892-1:2020-05 - Metallic materials — Tensile testing — Part 1: Method of test at room temperature

PN-EN ISO 6892-2:2018-08 - Metallic materials — Tensile testing — Part 2: Method of test at elevated temperature

PN-EN ISO 5178:2019-04 -  Destructive tests on welds in metallic materials — Longitudinal tensile test on weld metal in fusion welded joints

PN-EN ISO 9018:2016-01 - Destructive tests on welds in metallic materials — Tensile test on cruciform and lapped joints
